The state transport department has released the draft of Rajasthan Road Safety Act 2022 to improve road safety measures and reduce accidents.
The draft Bill proposes to establish a State Road Safety Authority, Rajasthan Public Transport Authority, Dedicated Road Safety fund and Public transport fund.
The draft states that in order to reduce the number of accidents, resultant injuries and fatalities in the state, the government shall issue Rajasthan State Road Safety Policy for well-coordinated, dedicated, and concentrated efforts from all stakeholder departments and other agencies engaged in road safety activities.
The policy will include representation from different stakeholders like department of transport and road safety, police department, medical and health department, medical education, education department including school, college, technical education, and road owning and managing agencies.
The state government has also planned to establish a state-level body known as Rajasthan Road Safety Authority.
The authority will formulate effective policies, schemes, projects, and programs for strengthening road safety in the state, coordinate with stakeholder departments and agencies for discharging duties pertaining to road safety, prescribe and enforce road safety standards, procedures and conduct or cause to be conducted with the standards and procedures prescribed among other functions.
