Food and agriculture organisation (FAO), an international organisation associated with United Nations for conservation of biodiversity and forest in the country, has planned a green agriculture project.
Five national parks and sanctuary have been selected from the country including Rajasthan’s Desert National Park (DNP).
Desert National Park is spread in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts.
Areas inside and outside the Desert National Park will be developed under green agriculture project for which Rs 31.4 crore will be spent.
According to the Agriculture Department’s Principal secretary Dinesh Kumar, efforts would be made to make the local purchase easy for 10,400 farmer families in 52 gram panchayats of Jaisalmer and Barmer districts.
Around 200 Prani mitras and Pashu sakhis will be trained for helping farmers. According to Jaisalmer District collector, the agriculture department has been made the nodal agency for the project. Directions have been given to make an action plan for this project and DPR will be made.
Under the project, 50 families in the villages concerned will be provided deworming and cattle vaccination. Efforts would be made for the conservation of biodiversity, local farms and field schools.
As per the Agriculture commissioner, the main objective of this project is conservation of biodiversity and forest. The project worth Rs 31.4 crore is expected to be completed by 2026.
Traditional natural sources such as pasture lands and ponds, etc., in the villages will be revived under this project.
