Why in the news?
=> The SAFF Under-18 (SAFF U-18) Women's Football Championship competition was inaugurated at JRD Sports Complex, Jamshedpur, hosted by Jharkhand.
Key points:
=> The tournament was jointly inaugurated by State Sports and Tourism Minister Hafeezul Hasan, Health Minister Banna Gupta and MLA Saryu Rai.
=> The tournament is being organized jointly by the state government, National Football Federation and Tata Steel.
=> It is noteworthy that for the first time after the formation of the state, Jharkhand has been the host of SAIF Under-18 Women's Football Championship.
=> Players from three countries – India, Nepal and Bangladesh are participating in the championship held from March 15 to 25.
=> 6 players from Jharkhand - Ameesha Bakhala, Astam Oraon, Sunita Munda, Anita Kumari, Neetu Linda and Poornima Kumari have been selected in the Indian team in the SAIF Under-18 Women's Football Competition.
=> The first match of the competition was played between India and Nepal, in which the Indian team started their SAFF Under-18 Championship campaign with a bang by defeating Nepal 7-0.
=> A provision has been made for free entry to the public in all the matches of the competition, so that the maximum number of people can watch the match.
