Why In News?
=> The State-Level Plan Approval Committee (SLSSC) meeting approved drinking water supply schemes worth Rs 6,872.28 crore for Rajasthan under Jal Jeevan Mission.
=> Through these schemes, more than 6.56 lakh rural households will be provided tap water in 3,213 villages located in 27 districts. Out of these schemes, 5 are multi village major projects and the rest are single village schemes.
=> Under the Jal Jeevan Mission in the year 2021-22, an assistance of Rs 2,345.08 crore was released to realize the vision of ensuring potable water to every rural family of Rajasthan and freeing women and girls from the trouble of fetching drinking water from a distance.
=> This year, Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has allocated Rs 10,180.50 crore to the state to implement the Jal Jeevan Mission. This amount is four times more than last year's allocation.
=> At the time of launch of Jal Jeevan Mission on August 15, 2019, only 11.74 lakh (11.57 per cent) rural households in the state were getting tap water supply. At present, out of 1.01 crore rural households in the state, 22.23 lakh (21.92 per cent) households are being provided tap water.
=> In Rajasthan, 58,363 schools (67 per cent) and 28,959 Anganwadi centers (54 per cent) have been provided tap water supply in their premises.
=> In the 31st meeting of SLSSC, proposals have been approved for providing tap water to 2,885 schools and 418 Anganwadi centers.
=> It is noteworthy that at the beginning of this mission in the year 2019, only 3.23 crore (17 percent) out of the total 19.2 crore rural households in the country were getting tap water. At present, 8.77 crore (45.57 percent) rural households are getting tap water supply across the country.
=> In the states of Goa, Telangana, Haryana and Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Union Territories of Puducherry, Dadra Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, 100% households have tap water connections.
