Why in news:

• Rajasthan government has recently approved a three-year action plan to strengthen farmer producer organisations in the state.

Key Points:

• The state government has earmarked Rs 137.75 crore for the plan, which will be launched under the Mukhyamantri Krishak Sathi Yojana.
• The plan aims at strengthening 120 farmer producer organisations (FPOs) in the state.
• About 96,000 progressive farmers will be benefited with this approval.
• The CM had announced to strengthen the FPOs in the state budget earlier this year, with a view to increase the income of farmers and livestock owners and ensure overall development.
• Under the scheme, cleaning, grinding and processing units of agricultural products will be set up so that farmers get fair prices for their produce.
• Priority will be given to cooperative societies in the formation and strengthening of the FPOs.
  
  
  
  
   

Mukhyamantri Krishak Sathi Yojana

• Mukhyamantri Krishak Sathi Yojana was launched by the Chief Minister of Rajasthan on 24 February 2021.
• Under this scheme, if the farmer dies during the peasant activities or he suffers some kind of disability, then financial assistance is provided to him.
• This financial assistance ranges from ? 5000 to ? 200000.
• If the beneficiary dies, the applicant will be the beneficiary of the deceased farmer and if the farmer becomes disabled then the applicant himself will be a disabled farmer.
• To avail this scheme application form should be submitted it to the concerned department within 6 months of the accident of the farmer.
• If the application form is not submitted within 6 months of accident then beneficiary in not able to avail benefits of this Yojana.
• This yojana will help farmer to fight the financial crisis due to the accident.
• To get the benefit of this scheme, the age of the beneficiary should be between 5 and 70 years.
• The death or disability of the farmer should be due to accident while farming only then the farmer will be given the benefit of this scheme.
• Suicide or natural death is not covered under this scheme.

Eligibility Criteria

• The Yojana is valid for the farmers of Rajasthan state.
• To avail the benefit of this scheme, beneficiary must be a registered farmer.

Farmers’ Producer Organisation (FPO)

• Farmers’ Producer Organisation (FPO), also known as farmers’ producer company (FPC), is an entity formed by primary producers including farmers, milk producers, fishermen, weavers, rural artisans, and craftsmen.
• An FPO can be a Producer Company, a Cooperative Society or any other legal form.
• FPOs are basically the hybrids of cooperatives and private companies.
• The participation, organisation and membership pattern of these companies are more or less similar to the cooperatives.
• But their day-to-day functioning and business models resemble those of the professionally-run private companies.
• The Companies Act was amended by incorporating Section-IX A in it to allow creation and registration of FPOs under it.
