Recently, Black Percher sighted in Seshachalam Hill for the first time.

• The insect has been sighted in forest locations of Karnataka and coastal Andhra Pradesh.

About:

=> Black Percher or Black Ground Skimmer (Diplacodes lefebvrii), a species of dragonfly.

=> It belongs to the phylum Arthropoda, class Insecta and orders Odonata.

=> Habitat and Distribution :

• It is mostly found in natural or man-made pools and at well-vegetated lakes and flooded depressions with stretches of marshy vegetation, in both inland and coastal situations.
• It has a wide prevalence in Southern Eurasia and the whole of Africa.

=> IUCN Status:

According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) Red List of threatened species, Black Ground Skimmer was labelled in 2016 as of ‘least concern’.
