Why in news:

As per the latest reports issued by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, the unemployment rates are at an all-time high on the national level.
According to the report, in some states, the situation is so dismal that every second or third graduate is unemployed.
But on the other hand, there are certain states where the unemployment rate is quite low.

Key Points:

The report has revealed that the state of Rajasthan has the highest rate of unemployment amongst all the Indian states.
Every second graduate in the seventh largest state (as per population) has no means to earn even a minimal wage.
Rajasthan is home to the highest number of unemployed graduates, which is 20.67 lakhs.
The total number of unemployed people is also the highest in Rajasthan which is equal to a whopping 65 lakhs; which startlingly, is 1.5 to 3 times higher than the states with the highest of populations.
In the last four years, the unemployment among college graduates in Rajasthan has augmented four times; while in the national capital of Delhi, this number has increased more than 3 times in the last four years.
As a matter of fact, there is a lack of new job opportunities coming up in India for aspirants to bag and this somber phenomenon has most adversely affected the literate youth of the nation.
Quite similar to Rajasthan, states like Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand and Haryana are also bearing the brunt of this lack of employment opportunities wherein every third graduate is jobless.
As stated by the CMIE analysis, every fifth woman in an urban setting in the country is unemployed, which is twice the number in the countryside.
Looking at it from the perspective of gender and residential setting, the highest rate of unemployment is among urban women, followed by their rural counterparts, urban males and the least can be found among rural men.
On the other hand, the states of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra have fared better when compared to the other poorly performing states.
In Gujarat, 1 out of 13 graduates are unemployed and in MP and Maharashtra, every 1 out of 9 of them has no job. Even in the aspect of total-unemployment, the condition of MP and Gujarat is better.
