What is the news?
=> Thirteen of fourteen samples seized by the Tea Board from different gardens in Assam have failed chemical residue tests.
Chemical residue tests :
=> It is a process that identifies the pesticide residue levels in food products through an in-depth chemical and microbiological analysis.
=> Detection of cypermethrin and monocrotophos pesticides were found in the tea samples.
=> Monocrotophos is used to kill mites that affect tea plants, but it equally debilitates the tea workers who spray the pesticides and those who drink the toxin laced tea.
=> Cypermethrin too harms health.
