Centre approves proposal for setting up of Namrup IV plant

•  The competent authority of the Government of India has approved the proposal for setting up of BVFCL(Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited Namrup IV plant in principle.
• It also proposed equity partnership of 52 per cent to RCF, 26 per cent to OIL, 11 per cent to the Government of Assam and 11 per cent to BVFCL.

Necessity

• The Namrup based BVFCL is the lone fertilizer industry in the entire north-eastern region contributing a great deal to the agricultural production of the State and the country as a whole. But the existing machinery at the BVFCL is wearing out and technologies are obsolete.
• Therefore the existing Namrup II and Namrup III plant are running with frequent breakdowns that have raised questions regarding the continuation of the existing plants till the implementation of Namrup IV.
• The two workers’ union of Namrup, i.e, Namrup Fertilizer Workers’ Union, Fertilizer Workers’ Union along with other socio-cultural organizations of Namrup have been continuously urging upon the Central Government to take a positive and immediate step towards setting up of Namrup IV plant at the earliest possible time to secure the future of Namrup.
• Therefore, such intimation on the part of the Central Government has created an environment of joy among the people of Namrup.The competent authority of the Government of India has approved the proposal for setting up of BVFCL Namrup IV plant in principle.
