Tiger Reserves in India:
=> Tiger Reserves are declared by National Tiger Conservation Authority via Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Act, 2006
=> It is established under centrally sponsored scheme called Project Tiger.
=> To declare an area as Tiger Reserve, the state governments can forward their proposals in this regard to NTCA.
=> The Central Government may also advise the state governments to forward a proposal for creation of Tiger Reserves.
National Tiger Conservation Authority:
=> The National Tiger Conservation Authority is a statutory body under the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change constituted under enabling provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, as amended in 2006.
=> NTCA conducts project Tiger and Tiger Census.
=> Tiger Census is conducted every 4 years.
Current news:
=> National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) approved the Chhattisgarh government’s proposal to declare the combined areas of the Guru Ghasidas National Park and Tamor Pingla Wildlife Sanctuary as a Tiger Reserve.
=> With this there are total 53 Tiger reserves in India(fourth Tiger Reserve in Chhattisgarh).
=> Jim Corbett is first Tiger reserve of India.
