=> Xobdo – Dialogue Dignity Movement Foundation, an organisation working on LGBTQIA+ issues has been registered under Section 8 of the Companies Act, 2013.
=> With this it became the first registered LGBTQIA+ organisation in the State of Assam.
Who are LGBT?
=> To under this we must understand difference between Gender and Sexuality?
=> Gender- How an individual feels like ? It is on the basis of hormones and body organs. One may feel like male other may feel like female.
=> It is sense of a person’s sense of self identity.
=> There are three gender classes- Male female and Transgenders.
=> Sexuality- enduring pattern of emotional, romantic, and/or sexual attractions to men, women, or multiple genders.
=> Four Categories- Straight(Heterosexual-attracted towards opposite gender) Lesbian( female attracted to female), Gay( male attracted to male),Bisexual( attracted to both genders).
=> Sometimes they are also known as Homosexuals- Homo-same. Homosexual- Attracted towards same sex.
Status of LGBT community in India:
=> LGBT community people have faced social stigma in Indian society.
=> They are generally outcasted and thrown out of family.
=> They are considered to have a pathological state- mentally sick.
=> Till 2018- Homosexuality was considered crime in India under IPC 377.
=> But the SC decriminalised IPC 377 in 2018.
