Jadav Payeng urges Dhemaji villagers to embark on greening drive

• Internationally acclaimed self-taught environmentalist Jadav Payeng and brand ambassador of the ‘Clean & Green Village’ campaign asked the local villagers in Dhemaji to protect and promote the greenery for healthy survival of their future generations.
• He also asked the villagers to take up massive plantation drives on a regular basis and conserve the biodiversity of the area.
• Payeng also appealed to the students to save the environment from vanishing into oblivion following widespread deforestation all the world over.
• He further stated that one should inculcate the habit of planting one tree each day, instead of spending a large amount of money in the name of entertainment.

Jadav Payeng:

• Padma Shri Jadav "Molai" Payeng (born 1963) is an environmental activist and forestry worker from Jorhat, India.
• Over the course of several decades, he planted and tended trees on a sandbar of the river Brahmaputra turning it into a forest reserve.
• The forest, called Molai forest after him, is located near Kokilamukh of Jorhat, Assam, India and encompasses an area of about 1,360 acres / 550 hectares.
• In 2015, he was honoured with Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in India. He is born in indigenous Mising tribe of Assam.
• He is also known as Forest Man of India
