Punjab Govt approves Rs 380-cr for ‘third wave’

Even as the second wave continued to abate in the state, CM Capt Amarinder Singh approved Rs 380 crore to be spent by the Health and Medical Education departments in preparing for a possible third wave of Covid.
The CM also gave the go-ahead to fill 674 seats of General Duty Medical Officer, 283 MO (specialists), 2,000 staff nurses, along with 330 faculty members in Patiala and Amritsar medical colleges.
He also asked the departments to bring the proposal to the Cabinet for any additional posts needed to ensure that all vacant posts are filled at the earliest.
The Rs 380 crore amount shall be spent on PSA oxygen plants, MGPS load enhancement and package substations, cryogenic liquid medical oxygen tanks and BLS ambulances.
