Haryana Women Development Corporation to launch Jagriti Yojana

Jagriti Yojana will be started by Haryana Women Development Corporation to create awareness among rural and urban women and involve them in the schemes implemented at local level.

Facts :

• A total of 7350 women will be made aware under the scheme including 50 women Panches and Sarpanches of 25 villages of each block.
• In order to encourage the women and girls of the State for higher education in the country and abroad for graduation, post-graduation at doctoral and post-doctoral level, the Corporation is providing interest subsidy of 5 per cent per annum.
• Interest subsidy of Rs. 4.82 crore has been given by various banks to 2048 girls and women for higher education up to June 2018.
• A loan of Rs 1.50 lakh was provided for women for setting up business so as to make them economically independent.
• Under this, a loan of Rs. 32.67 crore has been provided to 4566 women till June 2018.
• The women are provided training by the Women’s Awareness and Management Academy (WAMA).
• The academy has provided training to members of Mahila Mandals, Anganwadi workers and members of Self Help Groups etc. and till June 2018, 947 trainees were trained in 46 Batches at an expense of Rs. 51.13 lakh.

Analysis :

• The main objective of the Jagriti Yojana is to ensure the involvement of women in the schemes being run at local level.
• Under this scheme, one day awareness camps would be set up at districts and block levels and a total of 7350 women will be benefitted.
• The scheme will promote activities for the welfare, development and advancement of women.
• It will promote, literacy, talent, skill, know how, health awareness, enterprises, spirit of entrepreneurship and business acumen among women.

Haryana Women Development Corporation :

• Haryana Women Development Corporation was set up in 1982 as Haryana Economically Weaker Sections Kalyan Nigam Limited. In 1987, a women wing was established in the Corporation and the Corporation was renamed as Haryana Women and Weaker Sections Kalyan Nigam Limited. Again on 1.4.1991, the Corporation was converted into Haryana Women Development Corporation Limited. The Corporation was registered under Companies Act 1956, with an authorized share capital of Rs. 2 crore but as on date the authorized share-capital is Rs. 30 crores. As per Memmorandum of Association of HWDC, there is a set up of specified objectives according to which the company function for the welfare of the women in need.

WOMEN’S AWARENESS & MANAGEMENT ACADEMY(WAMA), RAI, SONEPAT :

• Since there was no Institution existing in the State to provide training to grass root level women workers, a need was felt to set up Institution where women workers could be imparted training on women issues for empowerment and development of women. Consequently WAMA was inaugurated in January,1995 which is a unique Institute of its kind in the country, registered under the Societies Act, 1860.

The main objectives of the Institute are:

• To evolve standardised materials and processes of selection, training, support and sustenance to potential entrepreneurs/field level women functionaries;
• To provide vital information support to trainers, voluntary workers, anganwadi workers, mahila mandals, animators and women entrepreneurs by organizing research and documentation relevant to socio economic development;
• To organize courses for grass root functionaries, to design courses as per requirement;
• To identify, train and assist potential women's groups for setting up enterprise/self employment ventures in rural area in small industries including services and smal business;
• To provide state level interaction and exchange of experiences helpful for policy formulation and modification at various levels in the matters relating to women and children in particular and overall development of society in general.
• This Institute has been upgraded to the Regional Level Gender Training Institute in the Women’s Empowerment Year 2001 to provide training on gender sensitization.
