Jananayak Karpuri Thakur
Jananayak Karpoori Thakur was born on 24 January 1924, has been a freedom fighter, teacher, politician and second deputy chief minister of the state of Bihar and twice Chief Minister of India, he was called Jan-Nayak because of his popularity. Karpoori Thakur was born during a period of British rule in India in Pitunjhia, a village in Samastipur, now called Karpoorigram. He spent 26 months in jail during the Quit India movement. He served as the Chief Minister of Bihar twice between 22 December 1970 to 2 June 1971 and 24 June 1977 to 21 April 1979.
