Data base of missing persons soon

Every police station in the state will maintain a separate register of unidentified bodies and missing women and children so that the data base could help in the tracing process.
DGP Sanjay Kundu says on an average, 1,800 persons go missing in the hill state every year.
About 180 unclaimed bodies are cremated.
“As part of a special campaign in August, we were able to trace 404 missing persons, including 252 women and 51 children,” said the DGP.
Kundu says the families of most missing persons kept waiting for them indefinitely, so there was need to make special efforts to trace them.
The record of all missing persons and unidentified bodies found would be entered in Register 28 from January 1.
