Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM) System at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha. The missile with range of 25km to 30 km successfully hit its target during the test.
i.QRSAM is set to be inducted into the Indian army by 2021.
ii.It is an indigenous Missile System developed by DRDO in association with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).
Participating Agencies:
Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad (RCI), LRDE (Electronics and Radar Development Establishment), Research & Development Establishment (Engineers) (R&DE (E)), Instruments Research & Development Establishment (IRDE), Integrated Test Range (ITR) were part of the test.
Key Points:
i.It has a range of 25 to 30 Kms.
ii.It is configured on mobile platforms and is capable of providing air defence on the move.
iii.QRSAM is canisterised for ease of transportation and is launched using a mobile launcher. It is capable of carrying 6 canisterised missiles at a time.
iv.The system uses a single stage solid propelled missile and is equipped with a mid-course inertial navigation system.
Features:
i.QRSAM weapon system elements like Battery Multifunction Radar, Battery Surveillance Radar, Battery Command Post Vehicle and Mobile Launcher were deployed in the test.
ii.QRSAM consists of a fully automated command and control system, two radars – Active Array Battery Surveillance Radar, Active Array Battery Multifunction Radar – and one Launcher.
iii.The radars are capable of 360-degree coverage with “search on move” and “track on move” capabilities.
