She is just 16 and is looking forward to flying to the John F Kennedy Space Centre in the US, after getting an invitation from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). Amritsar’s Hissaa, a Class X student of DAV Public School, who got the rare offer after she topped the International Space Olympiad, 2020. She scored 78.75 marks, obtained collectively in the preliminary, intermediate and final tests.

What is surprising is the fact that not only is she the first student from India to secure this position in the senior category, she achieved the feat with her own hard work, without any coaching. “It was a dream come true when I got the official confirmation. I aim to be an astrophysicist. I competed with students from Singapore and Switzerland, besides different parts of India, and bagged the first rank . I am eagerly waiting for the situation to get favourable so that I can visit my dream destination: NASA,” she added. 

International Space Olympiad

• International Space Olympiad is an international Quiz competition on Space Science and Technology for students of Grades 5-12. Each year with a mission to excite and encourage talents in the fields of space science and technology and intensify the aptitude of children.

ELIGIBILITY

• Students studying in Grades 5-12 all over the world can participate in International Space Olympiad.

LEVELS

• International Space Olympiad  is designed to have three compelling phases of competition. The top performers of each category gets selected to participate in the next phase of competition.

CATEGORY

• Junior Category : Grades 5-7.
• Senior Category : Grades 8-10.
• Super Senior Category : Grades 11-12.
