Swachh Survekshan Report highlights:- Bathinda scored an all-India rank of 79 and number 1 rank in Punjab.
Chief Minister Capt Amarinder’s hometown Patiala bagged the 86th position in India and number 2 rank in Punjab.
Followed by Bathinda and Patiala, Ferozepur has been ranked 96th (3,389 points), Jalandhar 119 (3,096), Muktsar 135 (2,962), Moga 148 (2,836),SAS Nagar 157 (2,790), Hoshiarpur 207 (2,379), Malerkotla 208 (2,372), Pathankot 257 (2,063), Batala 286 (1,909), Barnala 317 (1,676), Khanna 333 (1,517) and Abohar 380 (965).
Punjab moved up by one notch to sixth position in the overall ranking, a major improvement over 2017 when it was among the 10 bottom states.
Recently, the Swachh Survekshan 2020 report has been launched by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
It is the fifth edition of the annual cleanliness urban survey conducted by the MoHUA. It is one of the world’s largest sanitation surveys.
The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation topped among the best big cities in innovation and practices, while the Nawanshahr Municipal Council scored a hat-trick by retaining the first position in cleanliness in the 25,000 to 50,000 population category for north zone.
Jalandhar Cantonment was declared the cleanest cantt.
The Nawanshahr Municipal Council has been ranked fourth among the cleanest cities in North Zone
Special Chief Secretary, Local Government, Satish Chandra said in comparison to the 2017’s baseline survey, 12 Punjab cities with over 1 lakh population had improved their rankings
