The state government will construct 10,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) in 2020-21 in rural areas.
To cover more beneficiaries under the scheme, the state government has taken with the Centre the matter related to improvement in the definition of a kutcha house in favour of Punjab.
On the state’s request, a team of experts from the Centre is planning to visit border districts to understand the roofing condition of the houses so that guidelines related to kutcha houses can be relaxed.
Under the PMAY-G, Rs1,20,000 is given in three instalments to beneficiaries. Besides, they are provided with MGNREGA labour of 90 mandays worth Rs21,690 and Rs12,000 for the construction of a toilet.
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (Ministry of Rural Development):- Objective: To help rural people below the poverty line (BPL) in construction of dwelling units and upgradation of existing unserviceable kutcha houses by providing assistance in the form of a full grant. Beneficiaries: Beneficiaries are people belonging to SCs/STs, freed bonded labourers and non-SC/ST categories, widows or next-of-kin of defence personnel killed in action, ex servicemen and retired members of the paramilitary forces, Disabled persons and Minorities. Selection of Beneficiaries: Beneficiaries are chosen according to data taken from the Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) of 2011. Timeline: The project will be implemented in a span of three years and expected to boost job creation in rural areas.
