It is the first National Park of Madhya Pradesh was created back in 1955. It stretches over two districts of Madhya Pradesh Mandla and Balaghat. It was announced as Tiger Reserve in 1973 under Project Tiger a government of India scheme to protect tigers. The park has a significant population of the Royal Bengal Tiger, Indian leopard, the sloth bear,barasingha and Indian wild dog.
