3,000 govt schools get smart tag, courtesy NGOs, NRIs

Social welfare clubs and NRIs are contributing immensely to convert government schools, which usually lack even basic amenities, into smart schools.
Till date, 3,000 schools have been upgraded while hundreds more are in the pipeline. Of these schools, 2,700 have been upgraded with the help of school staff, under the corporate social responsibility(CSR) scheme, NGOs, NRIs and community clubs, etc.
According to Clause 7 of the Smart Schools Policy 2019-20, anyone could contribute for the improvement of infrastructure in schools as per requirement and with the approval of the management committee.
A block or building in the school, for which the donor wants to contribute, can be named after the donor or any of his relative. Such a proposal will be forwarded by the school on the portal. After getting the necessary confirmation regarding the donor or the person on whose name the building is to be named, an approval shall be granted online by the competent authority.
A smart school is a technology-based teaching institution, which prepares children for information and knowledge-based society apart from their holistic development. Each smart school will have a separate classroom for every section as per the pupil-teacher ratio. The classrooms will be spacious, airy and well- ventilated classroom.
