OP Jindal Global University (JGU) of Haryana has been conferred the ‘Institution of Eminence (IOE)’ status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development(MHRD) in recognition of its outstanding contribution of its faculty, students and staff.
Key points:
Located in Sonipat, Haryana, the JGU comprises eight inter-disciplinary schools. As a part of its application, the JGU submitted a 15-year vision to enter the world university rankings.
In July 2019, London based Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) gave JGU the top 150 global Universities in its World University Rankings 2020.It was the youngest university on this list out of 50 new participants.
It seeks to address academic matters, faculty recruitment, student admissions and scholarship, research, collaborations, infrastructure development and governance, among others.
Apart from achieving in promoting excellence and innovation, it will create new opportunities for university expansion.
About IOE:
It was proposed by the MHRD in 2018 to establish world-class institutes in the country, as no Indian Universities were ranked in the 2017 World University Rankings.
It aims to help 20 higher education (10 public and 10 private) institutions from country break into top 500 global rankings in 10 years, and then eventually break into top 100 over time.
