Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kailash Joshi dies at 90 years of age :
1. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kailash Joshi died on Sunday after suffering from a prolonged illness. The BJP leader was often described as the ‘saint of politics’.
2. Born on July 14, 1929, in Hatpipalya tehsil of Dewas district. He was also a founding member of the Jana Sangh founded in 1951. He then worked as a minister of the Jana Sangh in Dewas district from 1954 to 1960. Joshi, who was called as the ‘saint of politics’, served as the state’s chief minister from 1977 to 1978.
3. Joshi served as chief minister for six months in 1997-98 when he was a member of the Janata Party. He represented the Bhopal constituency from 2004 to 2014 in the Lok Sabha. Kailash Chandra Joshi represented the Bagli assembly constituency from 1962 till 1998. He also had a brief stint as member of Rajya Sabha from 2000 to 2004.
4. After the Emergency was removed from the country in 1977, the Congress had to be defeated badly in the elections. Morarji Desai became the first non-Congress Prime Minister of the country. He had dismissed all the Congress governments of the country. Then assembly elections were held in Madhya Pradesh. After the merger of several opposition parties, the Janata Party government was formed in the state. The Janata Party won 231 seats in 320 seats. Then Kailash Joshi was sworn in as the Chief Minister. Prior to this he was the Leader of the Opposition from 1972 to 1977.
