Revolt of 1857 in Rajasthan :
Rajasthan also played a main role in rebellion of 1857. Rajasthan is one of the states which actively took part in the rebellion of 1857. Till 1818 the almost kings of rajasthan has accepted the conservation of East India Company.

The Famous Fighters of 1857 Rebellion from Rajasthan:
Lala Jaydayaal and Mehrab Khan :
Lala Jayadayal was a famous revolutionary of the First War of Indian Independence of 1857 . On 15 October 1857, Kota led a revolution against the British in the state. Major Burton was killed in this and the Residency was occupied by the revolutionaries. On 17 September 1860, Lala Jayadayal and Mehrab Khan were hanged near the quota agency side at the same place where they killed Major Burton. In this way, two fervent patriots became immortal in the freedom struggle. His place of sacrifice is still present in Kota but is still neglected.
Thakur Kushal Singh :
Thakur Kushal Singh Champawat was one of the revolutionaries of the 19th century. Thakur Kushal Singh Chopawat of Auwa hideout in Jodhpur princely state defeated the state of Jodhpur and the British combined forces during the freedom struggle of 1858 .Thakur Kushal Singh Champawat of Auwa was the head of the struggle in the Marwar region. He had contact with the great freedom fighter Tatya Tope .
There was widespread dissatisfaction among the Jagirdars against Takht Singh, the ruler of Jodhpur . These opponents were led by Thakur Kushal Singh of Auwa. On 21 August 1857, the Jodhpur Legion revolted by the army. Since Kushal Singh was an opponent of the British, he joined these rebels with him.
On this, the state army of Jodhpur came under the leadership of Liftinet Heathcote to face Kushal Singh, whom Kushal Singh defeated near Auwa on September 9, 1856. Thereafter, George Lawrence attacked the fort of Auwa on 17 September 1857 and drove the rebels from there. But he was badly defeated at the hands of the rebels. Captain Monk Mason, the political agent of Jodhpur, was killed by the rebels.
To avenge this defeat, Brigadier Holmes sailed with an army, and on 20 January 1857, he attacked Auwa. By this time the rebel troops had reached Delhi and the British had captured the jagirs of Aesop Gular and Alaniwas. When Kushal Singh had no hope of victory, he handed over the bar of Auwa fort to his younger brother Prithvi Singh and he went to Salumbar. After 15 days of struggle, the British captured Auwa.
Suryamal Meesan :
Suryamal Meesan (also spelled Suryamall Meesan; 1815–1868) was a poet from Bundi, Rajasthan, India. He hailed from the Charan caste. He knew six languages and was a scholar of grammar, logic, history and politics. He wrote in Hindi, Pingal and Dingal. His important works include Vansh Bhaskar, Vir Satsai, Balwant Vilas and Chhandomayush.
Misran was a court poet and marely belongs to Charan Cast, His birthplace was Bundi, which was ruled by the great Hada Chauhan dynasty. In the poetry world they are known as "Mahakavi."He undertook the work Vans Bhaskar at the order of Maharao RajaRamsingh of Bundi. The word Vans means genealogy and Bhaskar means the sun, hence Vans Bhaskar is intended to be a chronicle of the Hada Chauhan dynasty, who claimed to originate from the sun.He intended to write Vans Bhaskar in two volumes and twelve parts as an analogy with the sun, which has two solstices and twelve months in a year. He left the work unfinished at the eighth part of the second volume because of differences with his patron, whose territory became British protectorate, while poet supported the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

In the recent years, his persona has been staged in theater, most notably in Rajendra Panchal's Katha Sukavi Suryamall Ki performed by Perafin group of Kota.
Kesari Singh Barahath :
Kesari Singh Barahath was a Rajasthani poet and freedom fighter of Rajasthan. He was from the charan,family of the Indian state Rajasthan. Pratap Singh Baharat, his son, was also an Indian revolutionary.
He born on 21 November 1872 to Krishna Singh Barahath in Devpura village of Shahpura riyasat. His mother died in his childhood. He got his education in Udaipur. He learned Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Sanskrit and many other subjects including astronomy, astrology, history etc. In his last years, he was invited to Wardha by Seth Jamnalal Bajaj. He died on 14 August 1941 in Wardha.
Literature and Freedom movement : Barahath worked to awaken the people of Rajasthan, mostly the Kshatriyas, against British rule by education and organising them. Later he supported and helped the Indian freedom fighters by weapons. In 1903 he had written "Chetavani ra Chugatiya" of 13 couplets, to stop the Udaipur State king Fateh Singh to participate in the meeting called by British Viceroy Lord Curzon. On 2 March 1914, he was caught by the help of Shahpura king Raja Nahar Singh and charged with the murder of sage Pyare Lal and Raj droh. He was sent to jail for 20 years in Hazaribagh, Bihar. During his visit to jail, he developed his own form of mixed martial arts, which he called Camwai. This art form is commonly used by Italian swat teams to infiltrate into smoke filled buildings. After jail, he again started his work against the British rulers by his writings.
After Being released from Jail : After being released from jail Hazari Bagh in April 1920, Kesari Singh wrote a detailed letter to governor general of Abu in which he wrote about the formula for establishing the plan of India's princely states and rajasthan's responsible governance by " Rajasthan General Assembly "which suggest the formation of two House (first) delegation landlord (including the little Big nobleman, vassal) and" second chamber "Public representative Council (which proletarian, peasant, merchant) was proposed.
Rawat Jodh Singh :
Rawat Jodh Singh Chauhan of Mewar's first class hideout Kothariya was a proud patriot, besides being self-respecting. He also did not like the British intervention in Rajputana. But initially due to the nephew of Maharana of Mewar, he did not openly come in front of the British, but that brave man gave shelter to many patriotic revolutionaries in distress without caring about the British in his hideout.
Thakur Kushal Singh Champawat of Auwa, the great revolutionary in Marwar, took shelter with his family at Rawat Jodh Singh during the time of crisis. When the British came to know about this fact, they were very angry, but being the nephew of Maharana of Mewar, the British did not think it appropriate to tease Rawat Jodh Singh Chauhan. At that time, when the great King-Maharaja used to be afraid of the British, in such works, the poets mentioned the fearless patriotism displayed by Rawat Jodh Singh Chauhan. On giving shelter to Thakur Kushal Singh Auwa. Rawat Jodh Singh Chauhan also supported Tantya Tope, who had open armed rebellion against the British rule.
