The Government of India is set to introduce 'NAVYA', a pilot program aimed at empowering around 3,800 adolescent girls across 27 districts in 19 states through vocational training for non-traditional job roles.

The initiative, jointly led by the Ministries of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Women & Child Development, will provide training in sectors like IT, hospitality, and green jobs, along with incentives and holistic development support.

Key Highlights:

• The door-to-door pilot aims to train 3,800 adolescent girls in 27 districts across 19 states, focusing on vocational skills for non-traditional sectors.
• NAVYA will offer training in IT, hospitality, and green jobs, integrating both technical and soft-skill modules including health, wellness, and career counselling.
• Participants will receive boarding, lodging, conveyance allowances, travel reimbursements, and post-placement stipends to encourage sustained engagement.
• The program prioritizes measuring placement outcomes, with every adolescent girl mapped by district, course, and training center .
• It targets roles such as non-clinical caretaker, play school facilitator, assistant creche caretaker, and care home supervisor, each with around 32 hours of training .
• This initiative aims to improve India’s female labour force participation (FLFPR) — currently at 41.7% — and move it closer to the global average of about 53% .
• If successful, NAVYA could be scaled up nationally, using early learnings to improve economic outcomes and gender inclusivity
