The monthly income of two persons is in the ratio 4 : 5 and their expenditures are in the ratio 7 : 9. If each saves Rs.50 per
month, then their monthly incomes are:
Rs.900; Rs.500
Rs.400; Rs.500
Rs.700; Rs.900
Rs.400; Rs.700
- The income ratio is 4:5.
- Let incomes be 4x and 5x respectively.
- Expenditure ratio is 7:9.
- Let expenditures be 7y and 9y respectively.
- Both have savings of Rs.50.
- Therefore, 4x - 7y = 50 and 5x - 9y = 50.
- Solve these equations simultaneously.
- From first equation: 4x = 7y + 50.
- From second equation: 5x = 9y + 50.
- Substitute and solve: x = 100, y = 150.
- Hence, incomes are 4x = Rs.400 and 5x = Rs.500.
