India marks 10 years of transformative impact through the Jan Suraksha Schemes, which include the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), and Atal Pension Yojana (APY). Launched on May 9, 2015, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these schemes were designed to provide affordable insurance and pension coverage to India’s underprivileged and those working in the unorganised sector.
Key Achievements Over a Decade:
PMJJBY: With over 23.6 crore enrolments, the scheme has settled claims amounting to ?18,397.92 crore as of April 2025, offering life insurance to millions. (source)
PMSBY: The scheme has enrolled over 51 crore individuals and disbursed ?3,121.02 crore for 1,57,155 claims, providing accidental death and disability cover. (source)
APY: Over 7.66 crore people have subscribed to the Atal Pension Yojana, ensuring financial security for those working in the unorganised sector. (source)
In addition to this, the government has introduced the Jan Suraksha Portal, a digital platform that has streamlined the enrolment and claim processes, ensuring quicker and more efficient service to beneficiaries.
These schemes have significantly improved financial inclusion in India, helping millions gain access to life insurance, accident cover, and pensions. They have become a critical part of the nation’s social security system, empowering citizens with financial protection and stability.
