Australia and the United States have begun their biggest bilateral military exercise, Exercise Talisman Sabre, with an opening ceremony held onboard HMAS Canberra. 

• This is the tenth edition of the exercise, and it marks a significant milestone as it is the largest in terms of its geographical area and the number of participating partners.
• Over the next two weeks, 13 nations will join in high-end multi-domain warfighting exercises, covering various domains such as sea, land, air, cyber, and space.
• The exercise aims to enhance military cooperation, interoperability, and readiness among the participating countries, fostering greater regional security and stability.

Talisman Sabre 2023

• Exercise Talisman Sabre (or Saber) is a biennial combined Australian and United States (US) training activity often including other allied forces, designed to train our respective military force elements in planning and conducting Combined Task Force operations to improve the combat readiness and interoperability between the ADF and its allies.
• Exercise Talisman Sabre 2023 (TS23) is scheduled to take place from July 22 to August 4, 2023.
• It is the 10th and largest iteration of the exercise. TS23 will involve various field training exercises that encompass force preparation activities, amphibious landings, ground force manoeuvres, air combat simulations, and maritime operations.
