World Pulses Day
  • The United Nations designated World Pulses Day is observed every year on 10 February.
  • In 2018, the UN General Assembly decided to mark 10 February as World Pulses Day. The first WPD was held on February 10, 2019.
  • Theme 2021: “Nutritious Seeds for a Sustainable Future”.
  • The day has been established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to recognize the importance of pulses (dry beans, lentils, dry peas, chickpeas, lupins) as a global food.

Purpose :

  • Celebrate pulses worldwide and the important contributions it made to sustainable food production after 2016 International Year of Pulses.
  • Raise awareness about the nutritional benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production aimed towards food security and nutrition.
