Pangong Lake is located in the Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir. It’s about 170 km from Leh, the town in the Ladakh district. The lake is located in the Himalayas at an altitude of about 4,350 m. It’s the world’s highest saltwater lake and is known for its scenic beauty. The lake is located in disputed territory claimed by both India and China. About 50% of the lake is in Tibet, 40% is in Ladakh, and the remaining 10% is disputed. The disputed territory acts as a buffer zone between India and China. The name Pangong comes from the Tibetan word Banggong Co, which means “a narrow and enchanted lake”.
