The Indo-Burma Ramsar Regional Initiative (IBRRI) is a collaborative platform under the Ramsar Convention involving Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, with the IUCN Asia Regional Office serving as the Secretariat.

Established in 2016, it aims to promote coordinated wetland conservation, transboundary cooperation, and implementation of the Ramsar Strategic Plan across the Indo-Burma biodiversity hotspot.

Key Points:

• IBRRI operates under the governance of a Steering Committee and Stakeholder Committee, bringing together government authorities, scientists, and civil society representatives.
• The 2025–2030 Strategic Plan focuses on wetland restoration, integration into policies, capacity building, sustainable financing, and strengthened governance, with climate adaptation as a cross-cutting priority.
• The initiative covers over 38 million hectares of wetlands that support around 250 million people and host many endemic and threatened species.
• Key actions include harmonising transboundary conservation efforts, enhancing community participation, and supporting research for sustainable wetland management.
• In January 2025, IBRRI renewed its MoU with the East Asian–Australasian Flyway Partnership to strengthen joint efforts in waterbird and wetland conservation across migratory routes.
