Myanmar hosted the Fourth Meeting of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) National Security Chiefs in Naypyitaw on 26 July 2024.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials from BIMSTEC member countries and focused on traditional and non-traditional security challenges in the Bay of Bengal region, according to the report.
The meeting also discussed matters related to counter-terrorism, transnational crime, anti-narcotics processes, maritime and cyber security challenges, national security, and effective information sharing.
From India's side National Security Advisor NSA Ajit Doval today led the Indian delegation. Delivering India’s national statement at the BIMSTEC meet, Mr Doval spoke on strengthening cooperation in counter-terrorism and combating drug trafficking, arms smuggling and organized crime. He also spoke about BIMSTEC connectivity, holding the 2nd Ports Conclave and water security of Himalayan river systems.
