After a gap of four days, the main door of Maa Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hills in Guwahati opened for devotees on Sunday morning (June 26) as the Ambubachi Mela 2022 concluded.

The Ambubachi Mela or Ambubachi Festival was held after a gap of two years. It was held due to the COVID-19 pandemic and this year too the mela was organised with strict guidelines issued by Kamrup Metropolitan District, Guwahati.

  • The district administration had set up three camps for the devotees visiting Kamakhya Temple.
  • Kamakhya Temple in Assam is one of the 51 Shakti peethas. During the annual Ambubachi Festival the deity at the shrine is believed to undergo her annual menstrual cycle.
  • As the four-day mela on the temple premises, held during the period, came to a close, the doors of the Kamakhya Temple opened for the resumption of public worshipping.
