Every year India celebrates National Safety Week following the National Safety Day on 4 March. We celebrate National Safety Day on 4 March because on this day the National Council of India was put into action by the Ministry of Labour.

- The theme for the 2024 National Safety Week decided by the authorities is “Focus on Safety Leadership for ESG Excellence.”
- The theme of this year has emphasized safety leadership for sustainable development on the principles of Environmental, Social, and governance excellence.
History:
In 1996, on March 4, the Ministry of Labour and Employment of the Government of India established the National Safety Council as a self-financing non-governing body. In the year 2000, the National Safety Council was established as a public trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act of 1950. In 1972, National Safety Day was announced on the day the National Safety Council was established. Since then, the day has been observed every year.
