If the arithmetic mean of ten numbers is 35 and each number is increased by 2, find the mean of the new set of numbers.

Mean of 10 numbers= 35

Sum of 10 numbers = 35 x 10 = 350

Each number is increased by 2

New sum = 350 + 10 x 2 = 370

New average = 370/10 = 37

Short Trick:

If all the numbers in a sum is increased

by the same value then their average is

also increased by same value

Therefore, new average = 35 + 2 = 37
