The Kerala government is taking proactive measures to expedite the registration process and introduce a unique identification system for migrant workers in the state. In response to recent sexual crimes allegedly committed by migrant workers against children, the government has initiated the ‘Athidhi portal.’

• This user-friendly web portal aims to streamline the registration of “guest workers” and ensure their social security. 
• The Athidhi portal, initiative by the Kerala government, is set to be launched on Monday( 07 August 2023).
• Its primary objective is to speed up the registration of migrant workers, especially in the aftermath of two appalling sexual crimes against minors.
• One such incident involved the abduction, rape, and murder of a five-year-old girl from Aluva in Ernakulam District, allegedly by a migrant worker from Bihar. The state is determined to strengthen its measures to protect vulnerable individuals and uphold their rights.
