Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has  formally launched the Rs. 5,156 crore Machilipatnam port works.

• With an initial capacity of 35 million tonnes, the deepwater port aims to boost the growth of Machilipatnam and attract cargo traffic. 
• The construction of the port, with an initial cargo capacity of 35 million tonnes, is scheduled to be completed in two years.  
• The port would help grow Machilipatnam on the lines of developed port cities like Mumbai and Chennai as it would be connected with the national highway 216 and Gudivada–Machilipatnam railway line soon enhancing port port accessibility and improving connectivity.
