Directions: Answer the following questions based on the given statements.
A person walks in the east direction from point B. After, walking for 4km in the same direction, he took a right turn and walks 3km to reach point C. From there, he took a left turn of 4km then a right turn of 4km and reaches point D. Then, he turns left and walks for 4km to reach point E. At last, he walks in the north direction and reaches Point P after walking 7km.
Another person walks in the west direction from point A for 5km. Then, she turns right and walks for 4km. Then, she turns right again for 5km and took a left turn. After walking for 3km in the same direction, she took a left turn again and walk for 5km to reach point Q. From there, she walks 7m in the west direction to reach Point P.
How far and in which direction is Point Q with respect to Point B?
19km, West
17km, West
19km, East
17km, East
16km, East
Let’s break this down step by step:
For Person 1 (Point B to P):
- Walks East from B: 4km
- Right (now South): 3km to C
- Left (now East): 4km
- Right (now South): 4km to D
- Left (now East): 4km to E
- North for 7km to P
For Person 2 (Point A to Q to P):
- West from A: 5km
- Right (now North): 4km
- Right (now East): 5km
- Left (now North): 3km
- Left (now West): 5km to Q
- West 7km to P
Now, where is Q with respect to B?
- From Q, walk West 7km to P. P is North-East of B by combining all previous East and North steps (from B’s path).
- From B to P (adding up all E movements for Person 1): 4km (first East) + 4km (third stage East) + 4km (after D, East) = 12km East from B, and finally 7km North.
- Given Person 2's movement, Q is 7km East of P (because Q to P is 7km West).
So, Q is 12km (East from B) + 7km (East from P to Q) = 19km East from B.
Options:
- 19km, West
- 17km, West
- 19km, East
- 17km, East
- 16km, East
So the correct answer is: Option 3 – 19km, East
What this really means: Follow both paths and stack up the Eastward travel. Q is 19km East of B, not West.
