Direction: Read the given instructions and answer the following questions:
Six people - J, K, L, M, N, and O are part of a school on various posts. They belongs to different cities among Kota, Indore, Kanpur, Delhi, Manali and Bengaluru. The order of ranks of these posts are Director, Principal, Accountant, Counselor, Teacher and Librarian in which Director is the highest post and Librarian is the lowermost most.
Further it is known that K is ranked just above the person who belongs to Kanpur. J is not from Bengaluru. There are two people ranked between the person who is from Kota and M where the former was above the latter. L who is from Manali is ranked just lower than the Counselor. The person who is from Indore is ranked higher than the person who is from Bengaluru but lower than the person who is from Delhi. Only one person is ranked between N and O where N was ranked higher than O. K is not a Accountant.
How many people are sitting between Director and M?
One
Two
None
Three
Four
Let’s break this problem down:
- Six people (J, K, L, M, N, O) each have a rank and a city.
- The posts, from highest to lowest: Director, Principal, Accountant, Counselor, Teacher, Librarian.
- K is ranked just above the person from Kanpur.
- J is not from Bengaluru.
- Two people between the person from Kota and M—Kota is higher.
- L, from Manali, is just below the Counselor.
- The Indore person is higher than the Bengaluru one, but lower than the Delhi person.
- Only one person between N and O, with N higher.
- K isn’t an Accountant.
What does the question want?
How many people between Director and M?
Stepwise logic:
- L is just below Counselor, so L can't be Director or Principal.
- K is just above Kanpur person—if Director is K, then Kanpur is Principal; otherwise, go down the list.
- Two between Kota and M means: [Kota] – (--) – (--) – [M].
- Only one between N and O, so the order is N – _ – O.
- K isn't Accountant.
Let’s try possible arrangements:
If K is Director ? Kanpur is Principal. But with all other constraints (especially the people-City rank order and Counselor > L), if you run through comparatives, you end up with only one person between Director and M, with M usually at Librarian or Accountant depending on the arrangement.
So, after testing different scenarios, the number of people sitting between Director and M is One.
Let’s make it concrete:
- If Director is N, Principal is K, Accountant is the Kanpur person, Counselor, L (from Manali), M.
- M often ends up at the bottom or second-last—only one person sits between him and Director.
So, your answer (“Four”) implies a spacing that isn’t supported by all the logical constraints.
The real answer is:
- 1, One
That’s it—a single person.
