Direction: Read the following information carefully and answer the following questions.
Seven persons A, B, C, D, E, F, and G will attend a seminar in January, February, March, April, May, June, and July but not necessarily in the same order. The seminars are on Physiology, Biology, History, Sociology, Mathematics, Taxology, and Cardiology.
C will attend the seminar on Mathematics in the month which has 30 days. Two seminars will be conducted between C and the Cardiology seminar. Seminar on Biology is in May month. G will attend a seminar on Physiology. One seminar is between the Cardiology and History seminars. Two seminars are there between C and B who will attend the Sociology seminar. G will attend the seminar immediately before D. E will attend the seminar after A. Neither E nor A will attend the biology seminar.
Who will attend the seminar immediately before E?
D
F
C
B
G
Let’s break this down piece by piece:
- C attends Mathematics in the month with 30 days—so that’s either April or June. April is also the only 30-day month in Jan-Jul.
- Biology seminar is in May.
- There are two seminars between C and Cardiology, so if C is in April, Cardiology must be in January or July.
- Two seminars between C and B (Sociology). So, if C is April, B could be January or July. But, if Cardiology is in January, B must be July (since Cardiology and B can’t overlap).
- G attends Physiology. G is just before D.
- E comes after A. Neither E nor A is in Biology (so not May).
- One seminar between Cardiology and History.
Here’s how it looks:
- Jan: Cardiology
- Feb: G (Physiology)
- Mar: D
- Apr: C (Mathematics)
- May: Biology (not E or A)
- Jun: F or A/E
- Jul: B (Sociology)
Ordering G and D (since G is before D), G is Feb and D is Mar.
A, E, and F left. A comes before E, not May. F must take June or July. If F is June, E is July and A is June (not possible—A can’t be after E).
So F is June, A is not May or June, so must be March. E is after A, so E is June or July—that fits. If A is March, E is June, F is July.
Who is before E? In June: E is attending Taxology (remaining subject), so May was Biology (occupied). April—C-Mathematics, March—A, February—G, January—Cardiology.
So, person before E (E is in June) is F (in May).
Option 2: F
That’s the logic, step by step. Let me know if you want the subject mapping, too.
