Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) approved the Draft GSR Notification for introducing Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Program), in a bid to bring safer cars for India.

• The New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) provides a mechanism, wherein automobiles in India will be accorded ‘Star Ratings’, on the basis of performance in crash tests.
• This programme will serve as a consumer-centric platform, and allow customers to use safer cars in the basis of Star-Ratings.
• It will promote a healthy competition among original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) across the country, to manufacture safer vehicles.
