The central government has sanctioned Rs.1,894 crore for setting up a PM MITRA Mega Textile Park in Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu.

The project aims to transform the region into a global textile hub with world-class infrastructure and employment opportunities.

Key Points:

• The park will be developed across 1,052 acres and is expected to attract investments worth Rs.10,000 crore and generate over 1 lakh jobs.
• It will include plug-and-play infrastructure, 1.3 million sq ft of factory space, a 15 MLD zero-liquid discharge effluent plant, a 5 MLD sewage treatment plant, and housing for 10,000 workers.
• This is the first of the seven PM MITRA textile parks to be sanctioned under the central scheme aimed at promoting integrated textile value chains.
• The initiative is a joint effort between the Union Ministry of Textiles and the Tamil Nadu government under the PM Integrated and Sustainable Textile Initiative (PM-ISTI).
• The park is expected to be fully operational by September 2026 and will position Tamil Nadu as a leading player in technical textiles and global exports.
