2000
The National Population Policy (NPP) finally came into force in 2000. ... The long-term objective of the Policy is to achieve a stable population by 2045, at a level consistent with the requirements of sustainable economic growth, social development, and environmental protection.” India being a highly populated country, the government has continuously paid attention to the problem of population growth. Just a few months before the attainment of independence in 1946, the Bhore Committee submitted its Report, which became the basis for developing a national population policy. This was followed by the launch of the Family Planning Programme in 1952, coinciding with the launch of the nationwide Community Development Programme.
