Answer the questions based on the following information.
A school has four sections A, B, C and D of Class IX students. The results of half-yearly and annual examinations are shown in the table given below.
Number of students
Which section has the maximum success rate in the annual examination ?
A
B
C
D
Let’s check each option for the highest success rate in the annual exam:
- Success rate in annual exam = (Number of students who passed annual exam) / (Total students in section) × 100
- Students who passed the annual = Passed in both exams + Failed in half-yearly but passed in annual
Section A:
- Passed annual = 64 (passed both) + 14 (failed half-yearly, passed annual) = 78
- Total = 28 + 14 + 6 + 64 = 112
- Success rate = 78 / 112 × 100 ˜ 69.64%
Section B:
- Passed annual = 55 + 12 = 67
- Total = 23 + 12 + 17 + 55 = 107
- Success rate = 67 / 107 × 100 ˜ 62.62%
Section C:
- Passed annual = 46 + 8 = 54
- Total = 17 + 8 + 9 + 46 = 80
- Success rate = 54 / 80 × 100 = 67.5%
Section D:
- Passed annual = 76 + 13 = 89
- Total = 27 + 13 + 15 + 76 = 131
- Success rate = 89 / 131 × 100 ˜ 67.94%
- Comparing all, Section A: 69.64%, B: 62.62%, C: 67.5%, D: 67.94%
- Section A has the maximum success rate.
- So, the correct answer is option 1 – A.
- Option 1 is correct.
