Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new Parliament House. He unveiled the plaque marking the inauguration and installed the Sengol in the Lok Sabha chamber.

Most of the Opposition parties boycotted the inauguration ceremony, which also included a multi-faith prayer and Modi felicitating workers of the Parliament House and greeting the priests who handed over the Sengol.

The new Parliament House is part of the Central Vista Project that's redeveloping the Lutyens' Delhi where the Union government offices are located.

• The new Parliament building, part of the Central Vista Project, has replaced the old Parliament House, which started its operations in January 1927.
• The new Parliament House is spread over an area of 65,000 square metre. Security had been stepped up in Lutyens' Delhi ahead of the inauguration of the new Parliament building.
• A special Rs 75 coin was launched on Sunday to mark the inauguration of the new Parliament building. Notably, the country is also celebrating its 75th year of independence. A special stamp to mark the occasion was also launched.
