A minor cannot legally enter into a marriage contract nor is contract of marriage entered into by a guardian on his or her behalf, always binding on the minor. The minor can on attaining puberty ratify such a contract if he or she chooses. This right of dissolution of marriage on attaining puberty is called Khayar-ul-Bulugh or option of puberty. This right is one of the safeguards which the Muslim Law provides against an undesirable marriage.
