The difference between writ of certiarari (Art. 226) & Art. 227 is

Writ of certiorari will only quash the orders of inferior courts or tribunal under art. 227 high court may quash the order as well as issue further directions.

Under art. 226 writ can be issued only on the application by the party while under art. 227 high court can exercise its power at the instance of itself.
