Legendary Carnatic musician and singer KG Jayan has passed away at the age of 89.

He breathed his last at his home in Tripunithura, Ernakulam district, Kerala, early on Tuesday(16,  April, 2024) morning. Jayan, the father of Malayalam film actor Manoj K Jayan, had been facing health challenges and receiving treatment for various ailments.

A luminary in the Malayalam music industry, Jayan’s compositions, especially his devotional tracks, have long been celebrated as chartbusters.

He was born on November 21, 1934, to Gopalan Thantri and Narayaniamma in Kottayam. Jaya-Vijaya’s journey into the world of Carnatic music began at the tender age of nine, under the guidance of Carnatic stalwarts such as the Alathur Brothers and Chembai Vaidyanatha Bhagavathar.
