Direction: Study the following information carefully to answer the given questions:
Eight persons M, N, O, P, Q, R, S and T live on different floors of a building. The bottommost floor is numbered as 1, floor above it as 2 and so on. P lives three floors above M, who lives just above Q. O lives two floors above N, who does not live on even numbered floor. P does not live on the topmost floor. R lives above S, who does not live on the bottommost floor.
How many persons live above S’s floor?

Nabard grade-A,Previous year Memory Based Paper 18 Sept,2021
Explanation:
- We have eight people: M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T, and eight floors.
- M lives on the floor just above Q. Therefore, if Q is on floor x, M is on floor x+1.
- P lives three floors above M. Thus, if M is on floor y, P is on floor y+3.
- O is two floors above N. N must be on an odd floor because he does not live on an even-numbered floor.
- P does not live on the topmost floor, so is not on floor 8.
- R is above S, and S does not live on the bottom floor.
By piecing together the information, we determine that:
- Let’s say N is on floor 1 (the only odd floors left being 3 and 5), then O is on floor 3.
- If Q is on floor 2, M is on floor 3, then P is on floor 6.
- So far, floors 2, 3, and 6 are occupied (not possible since O and M both on floor 3).
Assuming N is on floor 3:
- O lives on floor 5.
- Assign Q to floor 5, M to floor 6, and therefore P to floor 9. Error, too high.
- Re-evaluate P and place Q on floor 4, M on floor 5, P on floor 8.
- This setup places N correctly, and all positions logically work out.
- R could be on floor 7 and S on floor 4.
When this logical setup is created, only one plausible scenario arises:
- S = floor 4 and thus 4 floors are above S's floor.
- Option 2: Four.
